So this weekend was our annual trip to Norcon, a regular Norwich sci-fi convention. For the last couple of years it has been hosted by the Holiday Inn near Norwich Airport and they have regularly done a fab job. However this year there was a twist that I did not see coming!
The day before I was at a family wedding (congrats again Greg and Rosie, two very lovely people) where I won a bottle of rose for my Manuel from Fawlty Towers impression (awarded to me by a Manuel impersonator). It was a terrific celebration and we all had a great time.
Therefore I arrived at Norcon in a good mood. Gizzy was super organised and did a terrific job setting up our stand. For those of you who don’t know Gizzy has been a key part in setting up events for us since last year’s Norcon and is a top chap!
What we didn’t know was that I would be drafted in at the last minute to be a body paint model for Paintopia.
Why did I do this? You may well ask. I’ll tell you- because I’ve had people pull out on me and know how hard it can be to sort things out and find a contingency plan. Furthermore Carla-Jayne and Chloe were lovely and talked me through the body painting process (if you’re a Dr Who fan have fun spotting the various injokes!)
As well as being good fun this also got me a chance to have a chat with various celebs including the brilliant Robert Llewyn (aka Kryten from Red Dwarf), Norman Lovett (Holly), Colin Baker (the Sixth Doctor) and numerous other great characters.
Aside from this there was also the matter of our stand. We had some new merchandise on sale thanks to our new partners Badge Base and AW Print (who as well as printing our comics also do our art cards, marketing material and so on.) Also big thanks to Ed Couzens-Lake, Objectives Reached and Leapfrog Training who all provided sponsorship for us.
However this event is not the last thing we have planned for 2013- keep your eye out on the site for more info soon!
